Geocache Description:

Scale model of the Solar System, using the Rockingham County Courthouse as the Sun.

Mercury is the closest planet (cache) to the sun (courthouse). The courthouse is easily viewable from the location of this cache.

Mercury's period of rotation (day) is almost as long as its orbital period (year). Also, Mercury's orbit is highly elliptical. This combination would produce very strange effects for an observer on Mercury's surface. At certain times and places on Mercury, we would see the sun climb for about a month of earth time and then seem to "loop" - slow down, stop, back up, stop again, and then resume its westward movement until it set a month and a half later. At other points on Mercury's surface, we would be able to witness two sunrises and two sunsets each day!

Cache contains only a log - bring your own pen/pencil.
Mercury is printed (to scale) on the log.

Also printed on the log is information which you will need to locate the puzzle cache "Shmairmee's Comet".
