Oregon Trailbreakers Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

blazerfan: I looked and looked as well. I think it is safe to say this one is gone. I like this park it deserves a cache better then a micro. Perhaps someone can find a better spot... or I'll look for some other way of hiding a cache here

Geocache Description:

A nice cache in Croxton Memorial Park. You'll see picnics and the occasional wedding happen here, but don't let the nice grass and landscaping fool you... this is still a cemetery.

Croxton is the oldest cemetery in Grants Pass and you'll find many pioneers buried here. Named after Thomas Croxton, the first postmaster of Grants Pass, who donated this land for public burials. My grandmother described this place as old and overgrown when she first visited in the 1920's. Sadly almost all of the tombstones were vandalized and now lay pieced together in a memorial circle. Near the circle is a poem for which this cache is named. Some interesting tombstones read "Killed by a grizzly bear" and "Killed by Indians" several of these men were veterans of the Indian Wars.

The cache is a cammo peanut butter jar. Try not to stomp down the ground cover.
