Commemorating Amateur Radio
Field Day, 2007! This annual event provides emergency
communications practice for individuals and organizations and
occurs during the 4th weekend in June every year. Using
only emergency power supplies, ham operators construct
emergency communications stations in parks, shopping malls,
schools and back yards around the country. More than
30,000 operators across the country participated in the 2006
event.
The cache is
within a few hundred feet of the 2007 Field Day site chosen by a
coordinated team comprising the Derby Office of Emergency
Management and the Greater Bridgeport Amateur Radio Club (See
http://www.GBARC.net.). Come visit us from the
morning of June 23, 2007 through 2:00 pm on June 24th. We
will be operating continuously for 24 hours and anyone, with or
without an amateur radio operator license, will have the
opportunity to get on the air and talk to hams all over the USA and
the world. We don’t start setting up until 9:00 AM on the
23rd and are not officially on the air until 2:00 pm.
The cache
will remain active at least until field Day 2008. Hams are
urged to include their call sign in the cache log.
The park
entrance is at N41 19.105 W73 04.275. The gate open hours are
irregular depending mostly on soccer field availability. If they
are closed, you can park outside (don't block the gates) and walk
in. There is another cache in the park - GCR80Z.
