Port of View Traditional Cache

Greatland Reviewer: Dear Ladybug Kids,

I have been going through caches that have multiple "DNF" (did not find) logs, which is often a sign that a cache is missing. Generally cachers avoid hunting a cache with many DNF logs, so it is a good idea for the Cache Owner to check the cache and either replace it or post a log to the cache page to tell fellow geocachers that the cache is still there, but they might need new eyeglasses. No action by the Cache Owner may result in a cache being archived to keep the cache from appearing in local Pocket Queries.

Please reenable the cache page after you have maintained your cache. To reenable the cache, go to the cache from your Account page on GC.com. Under "Admin Tools" in the upper right-hand corner, click "Enable," write your note and click "Submit log entry."

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Geocache Description:

This cache is placed to bring local and visiting cachers to a Valdez vantage point that provides a 360° view of the town of Valdez, Valdez Arm, several glaciers, and the surrounding Chugach Mountains.

Park at the Valdez Civic Center or walk from anywhere in town and take the short trail with many steps that begins from the north west corner of the parking lot.  Enjoy the wraparound view of the entire area and then carefully seek the cache without giving up its location to the many muggles that also visit this very special spot.

The cache is a film canister prepared for easy retrieval without leaving the trail.  The initial contents include several state quarters, a ladybug and a pencil.  Please rehide the cache so it is entirely out of sight since this is such a frequently visited area.  The cache may not be accessible when snow accumulation is at its highest.

Photos (taken in mid-May):  Hogback Mountain and Valdez small boat harbor (left) and Sugarloaf Mountain and Port of Valdez (right).

Note on cache maintenance:  Daddy Ladybug travels routinely to Valdez on business, but local cacher Roscoe Pyle has agreed to help with routine cache maintenance in the event of any problems requiring immediate attention.
