"To understand where our world
is going, we must first seek to understand how the world was
made."
Alvar Hanso
Alvar Hanso first made his mark
publicly during the Second World War, providing munitions to
various resistance movements around Europe.
Soon after World War II broke out on
September 1, 1939, the government was in a panic. Given the
existing relationship between the White House and Alvar Hanso, the
government quickly placed key Cipher Bureau personnel into the
trust of the newly formed Hanso Foundation. They were
evacuated southeastward; on September 17 a final transmission was
sent stating that the personnel would be working "underground" and
that no location was known.
They continued breaking
Enigma, collaborating with British cryptologists at Bletchley Park
as the British got up to speed. In due course, the cryptologists —
whose ranks included many chess masters and mathematics dons such
as Gordon Welchman, Max Newman, and Alan Turing the conceptual
founder of modern computing — substantially advanced the scale and
technology of Enigma decryption.

During the War the Hanso foundation
made great strides in code breaking and code creation. Hanso
cryptologists found new algorithms and methodologies used in
information hiding and cipher masking.
Participants of the DHARMA
Initiative Phase II are required to learn and apply specific code
breaking techniques. Good luck.
