We do not want anyone to strike out on the final, if you let us know when you are coming to do final, we will verify cache is still in position, and hopefully meet you to celebrate your accomplishment. You must have actually visited a cache in each state to get credit (No Locationless). You may provide documentation by providing a list in your log, bookmark or GSAK file, or another method, which will allow us to verify your accomplishment.
With the unfortunate demise of “Found 50 States, I’m Going to Disneyland” (GCRFNN) there is a need for a Challenge Cache recognizing those cachers who have cached in all 50 States. Since it is desirable for the cache owner to have completed any challenge they make, what better place than in the home of the American Automobile and home of Auto pioneers the Dodge Brothers, placed in the Midwest where it is centrally located. We are aware of the 50 State challenge in Arizona but since it is 1,500 miles away we don’t think we are infringing on its likely finders.
As a youth we would look forward to Sunday evening when we could watch Disney’s Wonderful World of Color “now broadcast in living color”, then we could watch Bonanza also in color showing the magnificent west sponsored by Chevy and that great song “See the USA in your Chevrolet” with its views across our great land. Our father took on two cross-country trips in our Impala Chevrolet. The first headed west on US 2 from Michigan clear to the Pacific Ocean in Washington then returned in the next tier of states to see Yellowstone and the Teton’s. The next trip was down the famous Route 66 to California and Disneyland returning through Colorado and the Great Plains.
The Found 50 States I’m Going to Disney Land had 24 cachers log finds between when it was published in Nov 2005 and its demise in February of 2011. JohnnyCacheAZ was the FTF in January 2006, while Peasinapod was STF a month later. When we visited it, in September of 2007 Team Geo-Rangers gave us the honor of joining us for dinner in celebration of our accomplishment.
About the time Geocaching started our caching friend MadMan Reitz saw a car commercial by another Automobile that asked “If we gave you a … for a week what would you do?” He challenged us to come up with the shortest route to visit each of the lower 48 states. As we worked on optimizing our route the discussion moved to “Could it be done in a week?” Although we never attempted it, our route indicated with good planning and teamwork it could be accomplished. So for those who think this challenge is nearly impossible, we suggest, you probably could do it in a week if you really wanted to. “But what about Hawaii you ask?” Our friend Peasinapod tells of getting the final cache for his challenge in Hawaii on his day off and making it home that night!
For those of you who have only completed part of the states thus far, there is a great series of caches “State Seeker Challenge” in Grand Rapids Michigan by Bretina. (GC2QV32, GC2QV3A, GC2QV3D, GC2QV3F, & GC2QV3H) Whether you have completed 10,15,20,30 or 40 States there is a challenge cache for you.
The Difficulty Terrain rating is based on the time and distance required to complete the challenge not the final hide. It is a 1.5/1.5
