Geocache Description:

The Capital City Trail is a bike path that circumnavigates Melbourne through parklands, river and rail corridors. The circuit is about 30 kilometres long.

The trail follows the Yarra River to Yarra Bend Park on the Yarra River Trail and meets Merri Creek at Dights Falls. It follows the Merri Creek Trail up the Merri Creek to Rushall Station, where it follows the former Inner Circle rail reserve and Royal Park. It then meets the Moonee Ponds Creek The trail follows the Yarra River to Yarra Bend Park on the Yarra River Trail and meets Merri Creek at Dights Falls. It follows the Merri Creek Trail up the Merri Creek to Rushall Station, where it follows the former Inner Circle rail reserve and Royal Park. It then meets the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail which continues back to Docklands and Southbank. At its farthest, the trail is only 5 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne.

This cache is the culmination of eight other trail caches that lead off this main track. The idea of this series is to show off the recently completed Capital City Trail, and give you a glimpse of the other trails.

This trail is either concrete or bitumen and suitable for all types of bikes. There are a couple of locations where there are steps on the trail so you will need to be able to lift and carry your bike.

The eight other trails are:

CCT-1. Williamstown Trail
CCT-2. Bayside Trail
CCT-3. Gardiners Creek Trail
CCT-4. Yarra River Trail
CCT-5. Merri Creek Trail
CCT-6. Upfield Trail
CCT-7. Moonee Ponds Creek Trail
CCT-8. Maribyrnong River Trail

This series of caches (9 in total) are designed to be done by bike. They are all on established bike trails. Most of the initial cache paths are three to five kilometres in length (one way). The cache location is not necessarily at the end of the other trails, however if you do each one from the Capital City Trail and return to that trail, you will not have to double back (unless you miss something).

Each cache has clues for the Capital City Trail Cache (CCT-0).

The series is designed to be done either in one go (if your bum will hold out that long) or in bits and pieces. Except for the Capital City Trail, all the other trails are independent. Each trail is done as you approach it (off the main trail) and that trail will offer clues to a following location on the Capital City Trail.

I would recommend doing the Capital City Trail anticlockwise (all downhill that way), as this is the way the clues will work.

All trails offer picnic areas (many BBQ's), playgrounds, drinking fountains, and amenities.
That being said, please take hats, sun cream, snacks, and plenty to drink.

Most paths are shared trails. Make sure that you are courteous to other trail users (especially when you slam on the brakes because you just missed a way point).
