Roberts Garden is centrally located in Morris Plains. It is a small park with many flowering trees that hosts the Memorial Day ceremony and parade, Halloween parade, and summer concert series. It is also the home of the Morris Plains Library since 1953.
The Glenbrook mansion was built in the 1750s by the Stiles family (of nearby Stiles Avenue fame). It quartered horseman during the Revolutionary War. It was also the home of Jonathan Roberts, who was instrumental in starting the Library Association in the 1880s. When the Cutler family donated the house and property to the library, they named the gardens for Roberts. It is unclear how the provision about no dogs came about but it is a little strange for a public park. The park is busy in the wintertime with it's large hill behind the library. There are usually big crowds sledding despite the "No Sledding" sign displayed in the library window.
