In Plain Site - Half Way - over Trouble Waters Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

tneigel: I had gone to maintain this cache a bit ago. The noises and squeals from back in the woods was too frightening and I had to turn back.

The gouls and goblings were out today, but I continue through all the howling. The water was knee high, then suddenly hip high and gushing in torents all around me. The cache container was floating in midair as if being tugged by some ghostly force. I jumped and grabed it and ran for my life. I won't go back, I won't go back I screamed. You can have this location. I am too afraid to maintain it anylonger. Thanks to you all. The area is open now. Perhaps someone will use the other bridges over troubled water nearby for a new cache or two......

Geocache Description:

Easy walking path until veering into the woods for the last 236ft or so... maybe... There are First to Finds, but this is a FTF location. Extended Title: "In Plain Site - Half Way - over Trouble Waters with Electrical Static and Crazy Readings and New Bridges, and Little Tiny Trees and is somewhat wet, could be Flooded, and may be Dry and even buggy, but nice - But very Spooky, very Spooky"

Medium waterproof container in camo in plain site (or not) with the usual trinkets and room for small objects or coins. The title says it all on this new beautiful walking trail that goes in a circle from-and-back to Smithville parking lot. wonderful bridges and rest stops along the way. About 1/2 mile from either access so enjoy the walk.

You may have to tip-toe if wearing sneakers but it couldn't hurt to wear boots, but in dry times it won't be a problem at all. That is if you don't mind the sticker bushes and obstacles.

Story behind the Cache Placement: I had scouted out this cache loc the week before in the daylight. Today I was placing the cache after work, slightly before sundown. The power lines were buzzing like crazy and turkey vultures were flying over head. I had heard there were burial grounds here a long time ago but since the area floods, no one knows the exact location. I went to the immediate cache area and heard some rustling, but couldn't find the source of the noise. During the cache placement chores I swore I heard voices but no one was around. The gps directional arrow was spinning and spinning. A strange mist came floating down the hill along side the power lines and blanketed the area. By the time I had finished the placement, I noticed the fog was covering my feet and ankles and quickly coming up to my knees. I heard the voices again and spun around, but didn't see anyone else. The mist was thicker now, like a creamy soup. The sky was just as quickly overcast now and dust and darkness was approaching fast. I decided to leave the area as quickly as possible but could not see my footing, and fell over into the mist. Its strange when you loose visual cues how the dimensions have no meaning. I sloshed around a bit looking for stable ground and tried to stand up. With my bad back I had a problem but just then I felt a hand reach down into the thick mist and pull me back up to a standing position. I had mud all over me and wasn't sure what direction I was facing any longer. I swiped the mud off the front of my coat and shirt and rubbed my hands off on my pants. I noticed as that the mist and fog was now rolling away out to the stream and I could see the walking path once again. I turned in embarrasement to thank the person that helped me up. I started to say thanks and I wish I had brought my walking stick. I realized this person wasn't to the side or the back of me as I turned around. Now turning completely around, I spoke out; Hello, Hello.... But no one was to be found. Owls were out calling; 'whoo whooo whoo calls for you....' I stood there motionless for a few minutes trying to figure it all out. Someone had helped me up out of the mud and fog but no one was there. All I wanted to do was flee now and so I did the best I could stumpling through the brush to the walking trail. No one was around so I walked swiftly back on the path towards the car. I got to the car and fumbled for my keys. Figured I would take off my wet coat and find something to wipe the wet mud off the rest of me. Now in shock I saw no mud on my coat or shirt or boots, and my hands were perfectly clean....

I highly recommend you do this cache with a partner and during the day. If you go after work, make sure you have enough time to get out before dust arrives. If the mist comes down the hill and overtakes you and you hear voices, tell them 'Thank You' for me, and thanks for letting us put a cache in the area. But don't linger. Just don't linger...
