I början på 1930-talet var det oroligt på svensk arbetsmarknad. Lönesänkningar ledde till strejker och sympatistrejker. Protestmöten anordnades på olika ställen i södra norrland och oroligheter utbröt efter hela norrlandskusten.
Efter ett protestmöte i Frånö, den 14:e maj 1931, gick deltagarna i demonstrationståg mot Lunde. Militär hade blivit kallad till området för att skydda strejkbrytare och upplösa oroligheter. När militären öppnar eld mot demonstranterna för att stoppa dem, såras fem personer och fem personer dödas. Tragedin kunde ha blivit ännu större om inte trumpetaren i arbetarnas musikkår blåst signalen "Eld upphör".
Militären sägs ha uppfattat att det fanns vapen bland demonstranterna. Detta är enda gången svensk militär öppnat eld mot svenska medborgare i fredstid. Tragedin chockade Sverige som nation och fick återverkningar i svensk lagstiftning och politik under många decennier.
Uppe vid väg 332 finns Wästerlunds Konditori, K-märkt fik i klassisk 50-talsstil.
Vid Gudmundrå kyrka, Kramfors, finns gravmonumentet över offren att besöka vid N 62 54.891, E 017 47.086.

In the beginning of the 1930s the swedish labour market was trembling. The decreasing wages lead to strikes and sympathy strikes. Protest rallies were organized in different parts of southern Norrland and disturbances broke out throughout the coast of Norrland.
After a rally in Frånö, may 14 1931, the protesters went in procession towards Lunde. Armed forces had been summoned to the area to protect scab and disperse disturbances. Five people were killed and another five wounded when the military opens fire on the demonstrants. The tragedy could have been even more severe had it not been for the rumpeter in the workers orchestra who blew the signal "Cease fire".
The armed forces are said to have seen weapons amongst the protesters. This is the only time in swedish history that the military has opened fire on swedish citizens in times of peace. The tragady sent shock waves thru the nation of Sweden and had reprecussions in swedish laws and politics for decades.
At road 332 you will find Wästerlunds patisserie, a café in 50s style.
At Gudmundrå kyrka, Kramfors, there is a monument raised in memory of the victims of the tragedy. You can visit the monument at N 62 54.891, E 017 47.086.
