My softball team likes to practice here. It is relatively central
in The City so it's equally difficult/easy to get to for everyone,
easy parking nearby, beverages are just a short walk away when
practice ends, and an added bonus of having all sorts of off-leash
dogs around to watch out for as you compete with them to field
balls hit to the outfield. Nearby is rumored to be Whoopi's regular
grocery store when she lived in this area.
The problem with this field is that there are so many dips and
changes in hardpack in the diamond, that its tough to play a good
infield. I play 3rd base, which means that right-handed hitters
that hit ground balls usually come my direction -- fast. Mostly, I
can stop these. Usually with some part of my body that doesn't have
a mitt on it.
Once, a grounder was hit so hard at me, that it bounced up high,
off the top of my mitt, over the fence, and off the field (granted,
my left arm was moving at the time to help project the ball). The
cache is at a location close to where it landed. It's a
duct-taped/cammo'd raquetball container with room for small
trade items.
Happy caching!
Edits in 8/2004: bumped difficulty to 2.5. Any higher
than that and cachers will be going in areas that a softball
couldn't possibly have bounced to.
Edit on 7/15/08: Hint changed, as the cache had migrated
on my last visit and the old hint was no longer technically
correct.
