A cache to highlight Civil War Medal of Honor winners and Civil War Veterans buried in Ottumwa Cemeteries.
The listed coordinates take you to one of the two Civil War Medal of Honor winner's graves. From his gravestone you will get the information needed to go to Step 2.
Step 2 is located at N 41°02.AB9' W 092°24.5CD where
AB=the last two years of the veteran's year of death plus 1
CD=the last two digits of the veteran's year of birth minus 1
This step takes you to the Civil War Cemetery of the Ottumwa Cemetery. Here you will find another veteran's tombstone. (Hint: feathers from the east). On this tombstone you will get information to take you to Step 3.
Step 3 coordinates are N 41°01.EF4 W 092°23.GH1 where
EF=the last two digits of the veteran's year of death minus 40
GH=the last two digits of the veteran's year of birth
This will take you to another cemetery in Ottumwa with the gravestone of the other Ottumwa Civil War Medal of Honor Winner. He is one of only 23 black men to win the Medal of Honor during the Civil War. From his gravestone you will get information for the final cache.
From his gravestone the Cache is located on a bearing of IJ° for K feet where
I=the number corresponding to the month of this veteran's birth
J=the number corresponding to the month of this veteran's death
K=How old he was when he died plus 30.
After all this work, you will find an ammo can with the usual stuff plus a golden dollar for FTF.
