Come and join us on Tuesday 27th July 2010 for Breakfast on The
Ben!
We will be meeting between approximately 9am and 10.30am at the
summit of Ben Nevis. To find us, look out for our geocaching
flag.
We decided to hold this event as a number of cachers visiting
Scotland for the
2010 Mega want to climb the highest peak in the UK during their
visit. Some of us have also decided to take advantage of Scottish
access rights and wild camp further down the mountain the night
before the event, which explains the early start!
If you would like to join us wild camping, then feel free to
contact me through my profile for further details of our plans.
Because the access guidelines recommend that wild camping groups
are as small and inobtrusive as possible, we are not making the
wild camp an event in its own right.
More information about wild camping in Scotland can be found
here.
For those cachers who would prefer to walk up and down in one day,
there is a thread on the Scottish Mega Forum that you may wish to
use to find people with similar plans. Linky
here.
Please don't underestimate the climb to the summit of Ben Nevis.
This event has a 4* terrrain rating for good reason. The weather
can be 10 degrees colder at the top compared to the bottom, and
it's also likely that the climb will take you through low clouds,
so proper wet weather gear is essential. Please do not attempt the
climb without the correct gear and unless you are in good physical
shape!
Expect to take approximately five hours to climb the mountain, so
allow yourself plenty of time to get there before the event ends at
10.30am!
We look forward to seeing you all there.
And most importantly.....
- don't forget to bring your breakfast with you!
