Lagoas do Congro e dos Nenúfares
A Lagoa do Congro é uma lagoa localizada na área central da maior ilha do arquipélago dos Açores, a Ilha de São Miguel.
A Lagoa está localizada a poucos quilómetros da Vila Franca do Campo e a cerca de 5,5 quilómetros da Lagoa do Fogo. Apresenta um perímetro de 1,25 quilómetros.
Esta Lagoa ocupa uma cratera de explosão do tipo "maar", situada numa das mais activas falhas geológicas da ilha de São Miguel.
Embora de menores dimensões que as restantes lagoas da maior ilha açoriana, merece uma atenta visita. De aspecto soturno, reflectindo um verde muito escuro - transmitido pelas rochas alcantiladas dos montes envolventes - contrasta com a vizinha Lagoa dos Nenúfares, cuja superfície é, quase na totalidade, coberta por flores.
Curiosidades: Antigamente, pela festa de S. João, os apaixonados casavam-se numa capela próxima da Lagoa e passava a noite nesta para que o Santo abençoa-se o seu amor…
Lagoa do Congro and Lagoa dos Nenúfares
Lagoa do Congro is a pond located in the central area of the largest island of the archipelago, the island of Sao Miguel.
The lake is located a few kilometers from Vila Franca do Campo and approximately 5.5 miles from Lagoa do Fogo. Presents a perimeter of 1.25 kilometers.
This lake covers an explosion crater denominated "maar", located in one of the most active geological faults on the island of Sao Miguel.
Although smaller than the other lakes of the largest Azorean island deserves a careful visit. It looks grim, reflecting a very dark green - transmitted through rock cliffs of surrounding hills - in contrast to the nearby Lagoa dos Nenúfares, whose surface is almost entirely covered with flowers.
Curiosity: In the past, on S. João religious celebration, the lovers got married in a chapel near the lake and spent the night in this Lake for the Holy blessed be your love ...
