Geocache Description:

Really easy cache to find but I've given it a Difficulty Rating of 2 because of the cemetery's hours (8 am to 4:30 pm Monday - Saturday and 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Sunday) and the craziness of finding your way around in here by car on the east half.

The coords will take you to a marker commemorating the original 1895 bridge built by the Massillon Bridge Company of Ohio which was replaced in 2000. The magnetic cache is very close by. After you sign in, walk on the bridge and enjoy the view. The bridge is heavily used and is only one lane--it will be a tight fit for you and a truck at the same time.

Forest Home Cemetery was originally two separate cemeteries, Forest Home, est. 1877 and German Waldheim (means "Forest Home" in German), est. 1873 now merged into one in 1969. Forest Home was an Indian burial ground until 1835.

The office is open Monday through Saturday if you'd like to stop in and pick up a "Points of Interest" sheet and map. Some sites you may like to visit include:

Haymarket Monument
Emma Goldman grave
Indian Head Trail Marker
Billy Sunday grave
Indian Hill Marker
Fort Dearborn Era Hitching Post
Civil War General William Sooy Smith grave
Grunow Mausoleum
Graves of two children lost in the 1903 Iroquois Theater Fire
Graves of the parents of Ernest Hemmingway

It is actually more fun to park at either the Desplaines Avenue entrance or the First Avenue entrance and walk your way to the cache, than to drive--the streets can be rough and some just take you around in circles. Note the original paver block streets showing through the asphalt in many spots. Have fun and enjoy this very interesting place. You might even spot a coyote or two.
