Geocache Description:

The cache is .41 miles (as the crow flies) from the trailhead. No tree canopy interference. Scenic views. Remember, catrunr favors hills. **Please read my 4/23/04 note!**

Johnson’s Pasture is a lovely wild area of Claremont. It is currently a battleground between luxury housing developers and the Claremont Wildlands Conservancy. Its ranch heritage is seen in glimpses of farm equipment rusting in the grass and watering holes for cattle on the hillsides. Wildlife is abundant. A coyote was very interested in watching me place the cache.

The trailhead is at the end of Via Santa Catarina (which is at the end of Mountain). Alternatively, the *very* ambitious can come up from Claremont Wilderness Park via Burbank Canyon or over from Marshall Canyon.

The cache container is a 6”x9”x2” plastic Rubbermaid inside a sandbag sack. When placed it included a whistle, a carabiner, a glowstick, a pocket magnifier, a flashlight, a geode, and a Stardust pin. Stardust will return to Earth in 2006, bringing with it samples of a comet. Hopefully the coyote wasn’t FTF.

Enjoy your visit!
