Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the vicinity of Lindy Peak, which is accessable by hiking the Bobtail Ridge trail #375. The trail follows a relatively flat ridgetop, for approximately two miles to the cache area.

From the top of Lindy Peak (about 4325'), you have a nice view, which includes a portion of the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness Area and the town of Libby! Prior to the great 1910 fire, the Forest Service (Libby Ranger District) had a tree lookout built on Lindy Peak; two other tree lookouts were constructed on the Libby R.D., at Flower Point and McMillan Mtn. The "Crows Nest" tree lookout probably wasn't used for many years. Fire Lookouts of the Northwest by Ray Kresek, notes Lindy Peak: 4323' elevation - 6 miles NW of Libby - 1921 camp, abandoned 1942. The 6' x 6' lookout platform is still standing!

If not familiar with the area, you should pick-up a Libby Ranger District Travel Plan map. From Libby, MT., take Hwy. 37 N. across the Kootenai River and turn left on Kootenai River Rd. Drive about 4.5 miles and turn right on Quartz Creek #600. Go another 5.5 miles and turn right on FS road #6704. Follow rd #6704 about 5.5 miles, to Bobtail Ridge, where you can access trail #375 and follow about 2 miles to the cache vicinity. Where the trail forks, go right up hill toward Lindy Peak.

This is a regular sized ammo box - original cache contents include:

One travel bug; one geo-coin; compass/keychain; hand knit bag; Alaska keychain; Susan B/Sacajawea and other coins; Montana collectors pin; Alan Lane Band CD; horse head carabiner/keychain. *Cache camera - for Geo-cachers to take pictures of themselves.

*Please Do Not Take The Lindy Peak Cache Camera, it is not a trade item. I ask that you click a photo or two of you or your group. Please note the exp. number's in the cache log. I will develope the photos and place copys in the cache, for others to see. If a photo is real good, I might post on-line.
