"Double Dog Dare You" was a cache that we hid once.
The DDDY cache inspired a few other caches in the proximity, one being the now infamous "Triple Dog Dare You" cache which has set the standard for a 5 star ridge hike in Hawaii. It also spawned a "dog rating" system that some still use instead of the star system. Hence the name of this cache... Now it is possible to jump up on this ridge and collect 15 terrain stars in four caches (or just a little less than four dogs each). If you chose to make it a four dog day this would include TDDY, Sound of the Knee Drum, 4 Dog Day and Mariners Ridge caches.
This hike should only be attempted by only experienced hikers in top condition. Update 12-7-13: The route from Mariner's Ridge has been restricted by the property owners. You run a risk of being cited if you choose this route to the top of the ridge if you are not hiking with the Hawaii Mountain and Trail Club or The Sierra Club. You may still access this from Kuliouou ridge to the west but you will earn every star, dog.
