Peniche

Partly enclosed by 16th-century walls, Peniche is almost entirely dependent on the sea. Its fishing industry and port, fishermen, trawlers and seagulls mark the atmosphere of this town, with its whitewashed houses and narrow streets.

On the first weekend of August, during the festivities of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem (Our Lady of the Safe Voyage), crowds gathered in the harbor and holding lighted candles greet the statue of the Virgin that arrives by boat.
Fishermen´s wifes are also known for their skillfulness in making bobbin lace, following an ancient oriental technique.

In Peniche there is Fortaleza, a 16th-century fortress, overlooking the sea, that was used as a prison during the repressive former regime that ended in 1974.

At about 2,4 km  from Peniche, the Cabo Carvoeiro offers spectacular views of the ocean and strange-looking rocks.
From there, you can see Berlenga Islands, a rocky archipelago where nature is still in an almost wild state.
This reserve is a nesting place for a variety of seabirds and includes beautiful reefs and marine grottoes amidst imposing red granite cliffs.

The hunt

Between Peniche and Cabo Carvoeiro there are several fishing, sea contemplating and sun baths suitable places named; Tromba, Carreiro do Inferno, Carreiro da Furninha, Paços de D. Leonor, Cova de Dominique and Furna que Sopra.

In this very last  I placed a micro cache for  You to find.

Why this place  and why putting a cache in a place with nice view to the sea? After all, there are thousands of places like this in any coast... This one has a prize; If You go there ( to the exact place where You can find a balcony and a wall that prevents You from falling down) in a windy, cloudy and (why not?) raining day with turbulent waves in the sea... You'll get to know why the name Furna que Sopra (Rock that blows)! Enjoy.

If You can't pick a day like that... and just get a sunny, bright day...enjoy too!

After or before the cache, don't miss Papôa. A tinny peninsula in the north of the peninsula where Peniche is. You'll have to cross two wood made small bridges and the hike worths it..

I'm supplying a GPStm file

Cache Content:

Logbook, pencil, sharpener and an old 25 PTE coin.

Don't forget: "Cache in, trash out" and Leave No Trace

(In a trip nearby, I decided to verify this cache and take some photos)
It's there the place of "Furna que Sopra"

Here it is!

Don't stand in front of this hole (like I'm now) if it's wendy or sea is wavy - you'll get wet and disheveled.

Fomos dar uma voltinha a pé e aproveitar para fazer uma ou outra cache.
Adorámos esta. A furna que sopra é o máximo. Vale mesmo a pena descer aqueles (poucos) degraus e ouvir e sentir
a furna que sopra. Espectacular!!
Muito fixe.
