Although far from the extreme tip of South America, here is a chance to navigate “around the Horn” without even having to go to sea. This site is located within Cape Horn Park in northern Carroll County. Recently, a curious creature has taken up residence in this park and your task is to conduct an exploration to determine this individual’s identity. This can be accomplished by first locating three clue sites of this four-part multi-cache where our odd resident has left information for discovering its home. The clues along the way will show you our friend’s favorite things, and will also provide the means for determining the coordinates of the final cache where you can meet our special friend.The above coordinates are for the parking area, which is always open. The park is small but heavily used at times, so discretion is in order, especially at the first two clue sites near the asphalt path. This cache adventure is suitable for all ages, and the clues and the final cache are located within a few minutes walk from each other. Park in the first lot on your right as you enter the park and head south on the asphalt path that borders the east side of this lot. This will take you to the first clue using these coordinates: N 39°38.588’ W076° 52.640’. At each of the first two clue sites you will find coordinates to the next. Also note the items shown at each of the first three clue sites, since you will ultimately use this information as described below to determine the coordinates for the final cache, where our mystery resident will reveal his identity, and where he offers items for trade. First three clue caches are about the size of your palm. Final cache container is a green metal ammo box.The coordinates of the final cache will be in the form: Latitude: N39°38.UVW Longitude: W076°52.XYZTo determine the coordinates of the final cache use information obtained at the clue sites as follows:FROM CLUE SITE NO. 1: U = The total number of letters in the name shown for the first group of objects X = The total number of letters in the name shown for the second group of objectsFROM CLUE SITE NO. 2: V = The total number of letters in the name shown for the first item Y = The total number of letters in the name shown for the second item divided by 2FROM CLUE SITE NO. 3: W = Number of letters in the name for the first group of objects plus the number of those objects shown Z = Y plus the number of letters in the name of the second item shownFINAL CACHE LOCATION: Latitude: N 39° 38. U V W Longitude: W 076° 52. X Y ZPlease be gentle in accessing the clue items or they could be damaged. Slight finesse but no force whatsoever is necessary to view them. And do not remove our curious inhabitant, who is very attached to his cache.
