Mississippi River Geocache: Fort Snelling State Park

The park opened in 1962 to conserve open space and wildlife in the metropolitan area. There are 18 miles of cross-country skiing trails, 18 miles of hiking trails, 5 miles of biking trails, golf and canoe rentals, picnicking, fishing, boating, and swimming. The Thomas C. Savage visitor center offers exhibits and interactives as well as a giftshop and restrooms. There is a daily entrance fee of $7.00 or an annual pass for $25.00

Mississippi River Geocache: Remnants

This cache is located just off the bike/pedestrian trail which leads from the historic Fort Snelling area to Fort Snelling State Park and beyond. If you follow the bike/pedestrian trail SW, there is a footpath that leads down to the Thomas Savage Visitor Center and the S. Axon Von Bergen Trail.

The Mississippi River Geocache is a series of caches placed within the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, a 72-mile stretch of the Mississippi River from the cities of Dayton and Ramsey in the north to just south of Hastings, Minnesota.

You can find out more about the Mississippi River Geocache series by visiting the park website. This cache is a joint effort between the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.

Please make sure to leave comments and be a good steward and leave no trace.

Traded one of IB's TBs for another IB TB. I had to break this one free from its frozen spot, the cover was frozen too. Just normal winter caching. TFTC!

I came from below and the steps are a bit snowy and treacherous, but it had been over a month since I cached last and I was determined to make the find. Nice hide near the fort. Thanx.

Found this one at sunset - great view from this spot! Love this series - as nearby residents, we love exploring the river area. Dropped a coin. TFTC!

Found it, 9 of 10, cache 2446.

I was in the Cities today to attend a geocaching event over at Crosby Farm Park. I was hoping to knock off the Fort Snelling State Park Wildlife Safari as well. Another cacher told me of the National Park - River Ranger caches over here. How exciting. Made the find without much trouble. Took the steps behind the State Park Visitors Center up the bank. Have yet to visit the Fort Snelling Historic Site. It's on my list.

TFTC,

Kurt
