The bird reserve is an important hatching area and is thus
closed to the public between January and mid-June. This restricted
area starts just past the area where the cache is placed. Therefore
the cache is available at all times in an area suitable for a
pleasant short walk. The cache is reached after about 15 minutes'
walk.
The area is also notable for being part of the Galärvägen(Galley
Way) a route used by King Charles XII in 1718 to have twelve
galleys dragged/sailed from Strömstad to the Iddefjord, so
that he could surprise the fortress at Halden with an attack from
the inland side. The twelve galleys were each 20 metres long and
800 soldiers were employed in the task. Today the route has been
re-marked and can be travelled on foot and with a canoe.
The boundary to the bird reserve is crossed by a wire-tensioned
footbridge that is fun to cross for children of all ages :) When
the area is open, the path can be followed to a country cabin that
has a barbecue area, some playthings and canoes that can be rented
if you contact the relevant people or reach the cabin when it is
open.
