Geocache Description:

Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande

Salto do Cabrito

Boilers in place of observed manifestations of secondary volcanism,
including the fumaroles (steam mixed with other gases that are released into the atmosphere) and the sources of hot water.

These arise when the surface waters infiltrate and reach areas where very hot inside the earth,
being heated by the heat emanating from magmatic chambers or because of normal increase of temperature with depth.

During the course of several posts, it is possible to observe some structures such as
Central Hydro Fajã Redondo in 1927, currently closed and Dam.
At the Redondo Fajã you can see how to conduct a gap is more than 100 meters of height of fall
that will give strength to the waters that will be used in the Central Salto Cabrito.
The Center of the Salto Cabrito was the second hydroelectric plant built in São Miguel and one of the oldest in Portugal.
