GONE Caching!
The Geocachers of the North East (GONE) caching and camping event
Labor Day weekend (September 3rd, 4th, 5th)at Camp Glen Gray. DAY
EVENT on Sunday 4th for those who do not want to camp!!!!
What is it...?
Cache your way to September 3rd through 5th at Camp Glen Gray
(Camp Glen Gray), located in
Northern New Jersey, just off interstate 287. Meet fellow cachers
from all over the region and beyond. For a two day get-together:
camping, playing GPS games, participating in fun activities,
finding event caches, fishing (with NJ license), boating, hiking,
dining, gathering around the council campfire and sharing caching
stories with fellow geocachers from the Northeast.
Where is it...?
Truly a world apart, Camp Glen Gray offers the many pleasures of
outdoor camping in a locations that is remote yet convienent to out
of staters. The camp sits in northern New Jersey, just off
interstate 287 and offers 750 pristine forested acres and over a
dozen campsites. With over 100 caches within a 10 mile radius the
area is truly a caching dream!
Caches
There are over 100 caches within a 10 mile radius of the camp. The
event staff have laid out a Kids Kandyland Kache, a night cache and
an event cache which encompasses all elements of Camp Glen Grays
surroundings.
Camping
Camping check-in starts at 8 a.m. on the Saturday and runs
throughout the weekend. Campsites offer cabins for 9-30 people ($12
for the weekend), wooden lean-tos that sleep four ($8 for the
weekend) and tent and platform sites ($6 for the weekend). Central
to each camp site is the campfire circle and all sites have
drinking water (bring your own containers) and latrine facilities
(bring your own tp). You can make a reservation now by e-mailing
Avroair at: reservations@nnjc.org or you can
pay the day of. PLEASE DONOT CONTACT CAMP GLEN GRAY DIRECTLY UNLESS
YOU WANT A CABIN! They have a volunteer, part-time staff.
UPDATE: The camp is 'rustic' with all campsites about .25 miles
from the parking area. No RVs or vehicles are allowed at the
campsites. I have arranged for a truck to shuttle equipment and
people's stuff up to the camp areas. Each campsite has its own
fire-ring and latrine. There are showers and a well nearby.
There are also hotels available close by for those who don't want
to camp, but want to attend the daily activities.
Directions
The camp is remote, but very accessible by interstate 287. For
