California grass grows high during rainy periods for the first 50 yards. After that, trail is easy to follow with Niu stream on the left. Elevation gain is small and gradual, until the last 200 feet when the trail turns uphill. Note: use the left trail uphill. Right trail is eroded.
Park at N21 17.534, W157 44.454. Walk up paved Board of Water Supply road. Trail head starts to the right of the chain link fence. Cache is now a 1/2 gallon plastic container with clamp lid.
Niu stream is usually dry, but, as anywhere in Hawaii, heavy rains can fill the stream.
Aug 14th, 2013: new container in new location.
