Chicago, a self-described “rock and roll band with horns”, began in 1967 as a politically charged, sometimes experimental, rock band and later moved to a predominantly softer sound, becoming famous for producing a number of hit ballads. Mixing rock 'n roll, classical, jazz, R&B, and pop influences, they had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s, second only to The Beach Boys in Billboard singles and albums chart success among American bands.
The original name was Chicago Transit Authority, under which they released their album of the same name, but soon after, the band's name was shortened to Chicago, when the actual Chicago Transit Authority threatened legal action. The band’s logo bears more than a passing resemblance to the Coca-Cola logo.
