There's talk on the street; it sounds so familiar
Great expectations, everybody's watching you
From "New Kid in Town" by The Eagles
When catomcat suggested the name "A New Bridge In Town" for my
original bridge multi, this song began running through my head;
only instead of a new kid, we have a new bridge here in town. This
suspension bridge spanning I-280 is a marvel of engineering and
you'll get to check it out. While here you may want to work on the
other multis in the area, including my original "The New Bridge In
Town", GC1KYAJ. I originally intended to archive this one due to
occasional muggle traffic but was talked ut of doing so.
This multi should take about half an hour to complete. The cache
size is larger than most micros (small trade items will fit) but
too little to be really be a small (most log books would not
fit).
4/21/11: Sad to say, vandals have been at work again. ONE BABY
QUAIL IS NOW MISSING; PLEASE TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN
DOING YOUR CALCULATIONS BELOW. (Assume one more baby quail is
present than is actually there.)
From the starting coords (and closest legal parking) walk north,
towards the bridge. You will come to a bronze covey (or bevey) of
quail on the some boulders.
With the covey sculpture in front of you, look to your left.
Find find the telephone pole with four numbers on it. The black
numbers are arranged vertically and all have yellow backgrounds.
The bottom number = A.
Add together the number of adult quail, cheepers (baby quail)
and birds of prey. The sum of these birds = B.
Walk across the bridge and observe the bridge towers (they look
like inverted V's). These are what hold up the suspension cables
which in turn support the bridge. The number of bridge towers =
C.
Once across the bridge follow the foot path. The foot path has
dotted yellow lines running down the middle of it. Once the dotted
yellow lines end, walk about 11 more paces (big steps) and look to
your right. Locate the white sign with red lettering. The number of
words in the fourth line on this sign = E.
Now look to your left. You will see a nice place to take a
break. Count the number of benches. The number of benches x 2 =
F.
Turn around and re-cross the bridge. After you've crossed the
bridge looking to your left. You should see a dedication plaque.
What year was the bridge authorized? (Note: This is different from
the year it was dedicated.) The last digit of the authorization
year = D.
The cache is located at N 37.19.ABC W 122 03.DEF. Check sum for
solutions A to F = 24.
5/15/09: Congratulations to British Invasion on FTF!
