Veryan Visit Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

suzylou: Killing this one off - replaced it a month ago and the lid is missing yet again so I can only presume it's being muggled. Will think about an updated version somewhere nearby...

Geocache Description:

This is a fairly easy multi which will give you a brief tour of a pretty and historic Cornish village. Veryan is most famous for its “round houses” which you may pass as you enter, but this small place has plenty of other interesting history.

There are a couple of places which may get muddy or slippery in wet weather, so please be careful; probably not a good idea to try this one in flip flops. There may also be nettles close to the final location so bring gloves if you can, though I did place the cache without getting stung!

Park at the coordinates above, outside Homeyard Homes. These cottages were built as homes for the widows of seamen, and are kept in trust to this day. How many lanterns are there on the lamppost just inside the gate? Answer = A

Walk down the road towards the village, past the New Inn (at N50.13.124 W004.55.366) Beer and food here highly recommended! How many AA diamonds does the pub have? Answer = B

Close to the pub you will find the village well (at N50.13.163 W004.55.381), with a monument above. Which George is it dedicated to? Answer = C The Trist family, one of whom placed this monument, were father and son Vicars of the local church, St Symphorian, and an important family in the village through many generations. Their elaborate mausoleum can be seen in the graveyard, just to the side of the church itself.

Now cross the road and follow the footpath to the ponds. Rest on the seat at N 50.13.189 W004.55.318. There are some roman numerals here, what is the last digit? Answer = D.

Enter the churchyard via the gate at N50.13.189 W004.55.288. How many letters in the middle name of the person this gate is dedicated to? Answer = E

And now walk to the unusual grave of the victims of the shipwrecked “Hera” at N50.13.127 W004.55.309. One of the victims buried here had a job on ship tending what we might consider landbound animals. How many letters in his job title? Answer = F

Now for some maths...

G=F-E H=F-D

You’re now ready to go to the final cache location at

N 50.DA.DAH W 00B.CC.AGG

The GPS signal isn’t too great here so please use the clue if you need to. The cache is NOT in the churchyard, but very close by.

When placed the cache contained:

USA Geocoin Lego Bionicle Bookcrossing book – Alan Bennett Some small (new) children’s toys A tin from Disneyland California with some US coins inside A CD of songs about California and a couple of other bits and pieces.
