Geocache Description:

This cache is a 1.7 qt. lock-and-lock camouflaged container that is located across the road from “fire school”… the Nassau County Fire Service Academy at 300 Winding Road in Old Bethpage. If you go in the early evenings during the summer, you can watch the fire departments train via controlled-fire situations in buildings such as a taxpayer, high-rise, and a 2-story dwelling.

Original contents:
Logbook, pen, and some extra pencils
2 mini-ladder trucks
2 NYFD car stickers
St. Florian medal (Patron Saint of firefighters)
FDNY 343 patch
Firefighters WTC fallen heroes patch
American Flag/Firefighters emblem pin
Dalmatian with fireplug pin
Firefighter action figure with ax, extinguisher, Scott pack and other tools
Rescue truck pin
Chief car
Rescue helicopter
FD motorcycle

This is a cache designed to honor those who live for firefighting; be it paid, volunteer, retired, junior, wanna-be, etc. The original contents contain items for firefighter buffs who are young-at-heart as well as the veterans. It is my hope that the theme of this cache will remain dedicated to the brave men and women who can claim the title “firefighter” and their family and friends. Any firefighter-related trades would be most welcome; especially patches, pins, photos, and stories written, or pictures colored by children.

After finding the cache, cross the street and reflect and pay respects at the several memorials. There are steel beams retrieved from the WTC with photos and inscribed bricks dedicated to the fallen firefighters. There is a reflecting pool in the midst of columns honoring the Nassau County fire departments and their dates of establishment on Long Island. There is a memorial to a fire department chaplain.

This cache is placed in honor of my husband and two sons – all of whom are volunteer firefighters in their home communities, and with gratitude to all firefighters, everywhere.
