Or
Was it Just the Deputy?
There's nothing like being treated
to an unusually warm winter Saturday in the mountains. If not
for the snow on the ground, we might have thought it was
summer. After spending the morning doing some Jeep'n on
Pierson Park Road, we headed up Bunce School Road. The road
still had a good amount of snow on it, and it was melting fast,
making for some deep ruts in the previously packed down
portion. About a mile into the run, we came upon a full sized
Blazer coming up the side road and he was high centered and totally
stuck in the snow. We strapped the back of RM's Jeep to a
tree and winched the Blazer out in a snap. He was really
grateful because the shovels that he and his friends had just
weren't doing it.
After that we made it a couple of
miles up the road when we came to a Ford Explorer that was stuck in
the snow and no one was around. When we investigated, we
found that someone had taken a big rock and smashed the thing
up. It was really a shame because it was a pretty new
vehicle. We assumed that some family had driven up there, got
stuck, walked out and then some jerks found the vehicle and messed
it up.
We ended up turning around because
we couldn't get past the Explorer. When we got about half way
back to the road we came upon a Sheriff Deputy with his pickup and
he had gotten stuck trying to make it up a snow covered hill.
By this time, the snow was getting much harder to get through as
the tracks were getting deeper. Once again, we strapped the
back of RM's Jeep to a tree and hooked up the winch. This
time, the winch was really struggling trying to pull that big truck
up the hill and over a mound. It was really dragging the Jeep
battery down but the truck finally started moving and we got him
out of there.
Once the Sheriff was back on hard
ground, he told us he was on his way to do some CSI type work on
that Explorer because it was stolen. We told him that the
snow was worse down the trail and if he couldn't make it up the
hill where he got stuck, he wasn't going to make it any
farther. He ended up leaving his truck there and we gave him
a ride back out to the Explorer. While he was taking finger
prints and checking things out, we hid a
cache there too. After that we brought some of the
contents of the Explorer back, like two child car seats that the
deputy wanted to get back to the family that owns the
Explorer.
BTW: The Sheriff Deputy has a
Jeep too so maybe we can get him into some off road
caching.
Note: The cache has an
unactivated 2007 CO geocoin for FTF.
