Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden at 2095 meters above sea level, the peek it self is at 2222 meters, but to try to make a winter safe hide this is the best position on the ridge of the peek, close to one of the descent down to Smørstabbreen.

Storebjørn is a very beautiful peak with a great view over Smørstadbreen and its surrounding peaks, between Krossbu and Leirvassbu. The peak is easiest reachable in March – May on skis, the road over Sognefjellet usually opens in May, and the glacier is usually still safe for skiing. Between June and February you need a rope on the glacier both from Leirvassbu and Krossbu. There are guided tours from both huts as well.

The cache has a tarrain rating of 5, because of the need of glacier equipment and experience during summer and skis and glacier experience during winter/authumn. The cache might be difficult to find before July each year, but might also be in the open at that time, depending on snow condition.

The tour is not complete without a full dinner at Leirvassbu, very good and reasonable price.
