This cache is located on the summit of Boundary Bald Mountain in northwestern Maine. The trailhead is at N45 45.428 W070 12.800 and the trail is blazed in blue.
The cache is in a black 35mm film canister and contains a pencil and log. Please replace it securely as it does get very windy up on the top.
There was a fire tower on this mountain in the past and the trail follows the old route to the tower for much of the way. In some places the hiking is strenuous and use of hands is necessary, but I wouldn't classify the trail as technical. The rocks on the trail can be slippery when wet so watch your footing. The tower is gone now but there are spectacular views 360 degrees. You can see Quebec city to the north on a clear day!
The trailhead is off the Bald Mountain road(a gravel logging road) that leaves Route 201 heading east about 6+ miles north of Jackman. The road is signed and there are signs to the trailhead. Watch for the turn to the left on a smaller gravel road. After this point a high clearance vehicle and 4x4 are recommended(if you are adventurous you may make it a little farther in a car). With 4x4 you can make it to the trailhead, otherwise people generally hike from here. The trailhead is at N45 45.428 W070 12.800 and the trail is blazed in blue. Plan on 2 to 3 hours for the hike.
Take your time and enjoy the hike, its not uncommon to have the mountain to yourself!
