Geocache Description:

Squally Jim
Squally Jim lookout (elev 2419') sat on an eighty-three foot wooden tower overlooking the Willapa hills in the Lebam - Francis area. It was erected about 1940 or 41 and first used in 1942. In 1954, a small two story living quarters was built nearby.

The 1962 Columbus Day storm completely destroyed the tower... It was replaced the same year, then torn down in 1968.

Driving Directions
The best access is through the Globe farm on hiway 6 about midway between Lebam and Frances. Many maps do not show this road going all the way through, but trust me, it does. Look for the gate at the coords posted below (this gate is well known to veteran cachers near and far). Open the gate and drive through, it is a state owned right of way and open to the public....Just be sure to close it behind you... Now drive about seven and a half miles on narrow logging roads until you reach the parking coordinates also posted below. After a short walk up an abandoned grade and around a couple small windfalls you'll be at a clearing that is obviously where the tower stood... the cache is a few feet back in the timber, see the spoiler picture if you want a hint.

Note..
I spent some time looking for the nearby bench mark (SC1597) with no luck. Its coords put me right in the clearing where the tower stood... If the survey disc is still there maybe a metal detector would find it.
Also if you collect bottles, wander around. I saw quite a few really old ones scattered about.
