Geocache Description:

This is located in a small park in northern Hastings. You can park on the north side.

The county fair of 1932 was an extravaganza, an electrical exposition to show off Hastings as one of the largest municipally-owned electric plants in the United States. A full display of Westinghouse electrical appliances was there - shown only once before, in Atlantic City - showing how electricity could be used in the home, on the farm, and for commercial and manufacturing purposes.
There were other exhibits, too - an electric eye, and a robot or electrical man. The most significant display of all was the electric fountain, constructed by Water and Light Commissioner E.S. Howard. in front of the bandstand, which played jets of water, lighted by colored floodlights, in a seemingly endless performance; it was the largest such fountain between Chicago and Denver, and attracted thousands of people to the fairgrounds.
The fountain was named "Fisher Rainbow Fountain" after the Mayor of Hastings during the period of its construction.
In fact, it was such a lovely thing it seemed a pity to dismantle it after the fair; everybody was pleased when the city decided to keep it permanently moving it to the Waterworks park. It was placed at the end of Denver avenue just off 12th street, and the street was rebuilt to circle around it so that the fountain could be seen from all directions.
The Fisher Rainbow Fountain has been upgraded and the lighting scheme is now computerized and still enjoyed by many people in the area. The fountain begins operating on Mother's Day, and stops operating on Labor Day each year as the fountain can not operate in winter months.
This is a micro so small items only.
