Kelly Island - Back to School Special Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

mttroutslyr: Based on the container being gone and not having a replacement, the numbers of finds since the last time I had to replace everything in it and the other troubles with it, it is with heavy heart I've decided to go ahead and archive this cache.

Geocache Description:

Remember when getting new school supplies was so much fun?! We sure do, and now we are sharing our supply cache with everyone!

This cache won't be too difficult to find, it's a 5 gallon bucket! However, getting to it will be the challange. You know they say, getting there is half the fun! Keep in mind this is day use only.

Kelly Island is one of our favorite places to go for an 'urban hike' and explore close to home.

If you know the area then I would suggest starting at the south access to Kelly Island. If you don't know the area take Spurgin Road to the Kelly Island Fishing Access - parking around N 46*51.713 W 114*06.054.

We've taken you as far as the parking lot, now it is up to you to find the cache! Check the attributes though, this one won't be a simple walk down a trail.

Parents - please realize this cache isn't exactly kid friendly, although with proper caution they can have a blast getting to it.

There is hunting allowed in the area - but shotgun & bow only. Shotgun is allowed Sept. 1 - Jan. 15. Bow hunting is also allowed during deer season, so if you venture out during that time be sure to wear orange (as anyone should when hiking in hunting areas in fall).

There is a reason this cache was not hidden until August. That being for several reasons - the mosquitoes and river. The bugs will obviously be bad if you attempt this cache during summer months. Wading will be required as well, so keep in mind that crossing the river during spring run off and winter ice are DANGEROUS! Having a pair or aqua-shoes or waderboots would help too.

There are a few places you can wade across the river where the water will only be a few feet deep so look for those.
