Geocache Description:

Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers have been dedicated to cleaning up parks and other cache-friendly places around the world. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

CITO - Bockes Memorial Forest - Londonderry Twenty Two separate "Log-In" cacher Name so we had about 25 or so volunteers. Found some spots that needed lots of work. The trails them selves seemed pretty good. Main items were the car body, pile of shingles and brinks and the Paintball Play area. These are all gone now. We put a temporary blockaide so noone can do an easy "drive 'n dump". Lot's of volunteers and eager to go whereever to get the job done. Congrats to the winners of the coins.

CITO - George Smith Woodlot - Newfields
Only a few cachers here. Prior to the actual start Carrie from The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (Forest Society) and I hiked around a bit and planted a couple of caches. So I guess these are authorized. Will be filling out the forms and submitting to her to approve and letting NH Zamboni aware as well. We found one big trash dump from a while ago. Let's put it this way. The newest item we found was a TAB cola bottle. We removed as much as we could with the few people we had and filled up Carrie's pick-up truck. This area is on the center trail about 200 feet up. Please don't go playing in there. Glass, Metal, Rust...Etc. Etc.....But all the eye sore big items are gone to the most point.. Congrats to the winners of the coins.

The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (Forest Society) I want to Thank Carrie and Trevor for getting these events on thier way and letting me be a part of it. I really enjoyed meeting Carrie and walking the trails in Newfields. I look forward on helping out on more events with the Society to help benefit our caching playground.

Remember CITOing is an everyday event. While we are caching or just going along doing what we do on a daily basis.
RAFFLE PRIZES

The 7th Annual Cache In Trash Out Events are scheduled for May 2nd & 3rd, 2009. This "Cache In Trash Out" event is being held at George Smith Woodlot
from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Sunday, May 3rd.(rain or shine)

HISTORY

The focus of the effort will be trail cleanup as an opportunity for cachers to give back to the Society for the Protection of NH Forests. The Forest Society currently owns over 150 properties totaling more than over 45,000 acres across the state. Several of these reservations are managed for sustainable timber harvests, and some are left in a state of wilderness to preserve critical habitat and biodiversity. All of the reservations are open to the public for most forms of low-impact recreation. Currently geocaching is permitted in 17 of their properties.

The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (Forest Society) is a non-profit membership organization founded in 1901to protect the state's most important landscapes and promote wise use of its renewable natural resources. The Forest Society’s Land Management Department is responsible for managing the organizations many fee-owned lands, including conducting sustainable timber harvests, protecting rare or uncommon natural communities, enhancing wildlife habitat, conducting boundary maintenance, and managing recreational infrastructure such as trails, gates, signs, kiosks, and parking areas.

The Forest Society has done an incredible job on the open spaces they maintain and we now have an opportunity to give a little back with a cleanup event at their George Smith Woodlot location Sunday, May 3rd from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM (rain or shine).

DIRECTIONS

The cache page coordinates are for the parking lot - Follow your GPSr!

From Newmarket, take Route 108 south to Route 85 in Newfields. Go Right on Route 85 (Main St.). Follow this for about a mile, and just after you pass over some railroad tracks, go Right on Baker Street. Baker street is a dead end…go down it and you will pass some houses and end up in a cul-de-sac which is the parking area for the property (kiosk is a short distance down the trail from here).

DETAILS

I don’t necessarily know how much trash there is to be cleaned up or how many attendees will help and planned on a 2.5 hour clean up time (with a good turnout, the duration may be shorter). The reservation is in a semi-developed area and receives significant recreational use, so the potential for litter is definitely there. The majority of the cleanup will be moving trash from the trail-head and forest trails so please come prepared for this type of work.We will meet at the parking coordinates at 1:00 PM to separate into groups of 3-5 people and select a specific trail or area to focus on.

*Please bring all filled, semi-filled trash bags to the trail-head for removal.

TRASH REMOVAL - We will need to bring the trash to the Newfields dump or the dumpster of a local business. If you are willing to assist in this project please let me know
