A short walk from several good parking locations within the perimeter of the Jimtown forest fire, July 2003. I tried to make this a cleverly hidden cache which should present a bit of a challenge.
If you are into birding as well as Geocaching, this is the cache for you. I discovered this spot before Christmas and I have been back two more times to discover dozens and dozens of woodpeckers of at least six different species including the Grandmaster of all, Mr. Pileated (photo). For more information, search the Internet for woodpeckers. Following in the wake of the Jimtown forest fire, July 2003, hundreds of woodpeckers have descended on this spooky blackened forest. Plan to sit for a while and just listen. Bring the children for interesting lessons about forest fires, wildlife, and recovery. This cache is very well hidden and should provide a good challenge. It is a 24 ounce white plastic laundry detergent container and contained the following when hidden: Logbook, pencil & sharpener, 3 bouncy balls, deck of cards, small tape measure, foot warmers, flash light, and a special first-finder reward. Enjoy!
