This cache is in General Butler State Resort Park in scenic
Carrollton, KY.
General William O. Butler was a member of the famous 'Peace
Conference' as an attempt to prevent the Civil War as well as
serving as a Kentucky Congressman. A graduate of Transylvania
University in Lexington, KY he went on to serve the country in
various battles during The War of 1812. One of those battles was
The Battle of Frenchtown and The Battle of the River Raisin where
he was taken prisoner while fighting the British for control of
Michigan and the lower Great Lakes. The failures at this battle led
to the phrase "Remember the Raisin" being used as a rallying cry
during The War of 1812.
This state park is quite obviously named for General Butler who
lived in the old home site located on the other (west) end of the
park where he eventually died on Aug. 6th 1880.
The cache is located along the Woodland trail and is an ammo can
hidden in the usual manner for the area. While nearly full when
originally placed there should be room for most any trade items,
travel bugs and Geocoins. There is no need to bushwhack to this
cache. It is located a very short distance off the trail. This part
of the trail is a loop with some great scenery (and more caches to
come) so continue on around for an additional 1/2 mile or so for
some wonderful woodland scenery.
NOTE: Trails close at dusk and this hike can take around an hour or
slightly less for some.
No night caching please.
Access to the trail can be found in many areas.
Primary parking as rated (2 difficulty, 3.5 terrain) is at the park
lodge at: N38* 40.250 W085* 09.280. Note that the first 1/4 or so
of the trail is relatively steep and could be slippery in wet
weather which is why the cache has a 3.5 terrain rating. The
remainder of the trail is a 2.5 terrain. If you would like a park
map, stop in at the lodge and ask the desk clerk at the check in
desk. They should have copies available showing trails and trail
heads.
If camping the hike would be much shorter from the campground area.
If not camping there is parking just outside the campground by the
lake (as an alternate starting point - but why spoil the nice
hike?) at: N 38* 39.873 W085* 08.993. If using this parking
location follow the campground road into the camping area and look
for the cabin on the left (Cabin 521) as you go into the camping
area. There is trail access to the right of the cabin at N 38*
40.136' W 085* 09.096'. Using this location reduces the terrain to
a 2.5.

with clip, Bead Necklace, Psychedelic Rings, Log Book, Pencil and a
small FTF prize.
The cache is close to the trail and not too far from the park
campground so be sure to re-hide as found and keep an eye out for
muggles.
