Professor Layton and The Diabolical Box Mystery Cache

This cache is not located at the posted coordinates!  You must carefully follow the directions and solve the puzzles below to determine the actual location. 

This cache is based on the popular video game “Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box” created in the UK.  Professor Layton and his sidekick, Luke, discover that the diabolical box has been stolen, and they set out on a mission to find it.

In their search for the diabolical box, they need to solve various puzzles to pick up clues to the mystery and, in the process, they collect tea leaves which they use to brew various tea (using set recipes) for their friends.  Early in their journey, they visit the village of Dropstone and meet an elderly woman by the name of Laurel who rewards them for solving her puzzle by giving them a tea set.  They don’t use this tea set until they get to the town of Folsense where they brew various teas for the friends they make along the way.

You will set out on your own quest to find a diabolical box and collect tea leaves and other ingredients.  To do this, you will need to solve a set of puzzles.  Each puzzle will give you one clue to the final coordinates.  You will use these clues to figure out which tea leaves you need to combine to make each of your caching friend’s favorite teas.  Once you have collected the tea leaves and brewed the tea for each recipe, the final coordinates will be revealed to you.  Please note, in order to open the box and sign the logbook (which is a must for logging this cache as a find), you will need to solve one final, two-part puzzle at the site of the cache.  I recommend you find a comfortable seat and enjoy a cup of tea while you work on the puzzle.  You will need to bring PAPER/NOTEBOOK, a PEN/PENCIL, and a CALCULATOR or SMARTPHONE with you.  A CAMERA or SMARTPHONE may also be helpful if you don’t want to spend much time copying down the puzzle.

Solve the logic puzzles below.  Each numerical answer will correspond to a different tea leaf (see the list of tea ingredients above).  That tea leaf will then correspond to the letter indicated in bold print next to each puzzle.  These letters will be used in the next part of the puzzle.

Part 2:  Brew the Teas

Using the recipe formulas in the table at the end of the cache page (below the table of recipes), in which each letter represents a different tea leaf as determined from solving the logic puzzles above, and using the recipes and brew numbers given to you in the recipe table, also at the end of the cache page, determine the name of the brew that each formula makes.  You will use the corresponding brew number in the final stage of the puzzle.

Part 3:  Find the Coordinates

To determine the final coordinates for the cache, solve the following equations by inserting the brew # that corresponds with each brew code as determined in part 2.  The answer will then be associated with another letter (i.e. A-1, B-1, C-1, etc.).

North:

Brew 2-1 + Brew 4-1 + Brew 9-1 =  __________ = A-1

Brew 8-1 – Brew 9-1 = _________ = B-1

(Brew 11-1 – Brew 4-1) + (Brew 2-1 – Brew 9-1)  = _________ = C-1

West:
