How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Geocaching and 4x4s go together like peanut butter and jelly. Both are great fun, but both must be done in an environmentally aware manner. Tread Lightly® is a not-for-profit organization that works towards educating people in how to recreate in the great outdoors while causing minimum impact on the environment. That's why we put on our Geocaching event each year, to help spread the awarness of being cautious about the land you're caching on.

It's that time of year again, the time when all the ORCAs come together for a joyful celebration of camping, caching, and 4x4ing out in the middle of nowhere!

Come join us in the North Maine Woods, on the shores of Long Pond. For some GSAK talk, TB trade, and some off road cache runs.

We will start the event about 10:00am, and head out to play shortly after.

There is a boat launch by the campsite, feel free to bring a canoe or kayak

There is a fee to enter the Jo-Mary gate, each person shall be responsible for their own fees. The cost is $15 per person per night, this includes the gate fee and the camping fee.

Anyone attending is responsible for themselves. This means you should bring your own camping gear, food for the weekend, GPS, ect. To keep with the ORCA tradition we will have a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning for all who campout overnight.

To get to long pond: from Rt 11 go through the Jo-Mary checkpoint (Delorme page 42 C-5) Follow the Johnston Pond Rd. and turn right at Big Pleasant pond. The road to the campsites will be on the right (Delorme page 42 B-3) There are also signs around pointing the way to Long Pond.

Keep in mind that this is a semi-primitive campsite, not a campground. So come prepared.
