🧙 Llanddona Witches 🧙
This cache has been placed in deference to the Llanddona Witches legend http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Llanddona-Witches-on-the-Anglesey-Coastal-Path&id=1094032, and also to bring geocachers to less visited parts of Red Wharf Bay - the beach is never busy. Watch out for witches, or short red-haired hares in the area (see article), as it is said that their descendants still live around these parts, and it would be best if we don’t upset them in any way.
The cache is a small plastic container in a camo bag and contains the usual goodies to swap. Roads down to the beach and car park are very steep. There are at least three ways to approach the cache: (1) through the sand dunes along the Anglesey Coastal Path and the sea wall; (2) along the beach at LOW TIDE; or, (3) a further drive and shorter walk. Hopefully you will be able to take the opportunity to have a good look around the area and not take the easier route. Dogs are allowed on the part of the beach that leads to the cache (see information board at the car park). The first two approaches are less than a mile each way and come with warnings. (1) the sea wall is about 2 feet wide and 5-10 feet above the ground, and not all the wall has a fence on both sides (probably not ideal for young children or pets that aren’t sure-footed). (2) whilst possible at LOW TIDE (wellies or similar required) there is a river that runs down to the sea across the beach (could this be the spring produced by the witches as told by the legend?). Avoid crossing the marsh and reed beds, and head for the shack which is visible ahead when you are abreast of the cache location, then when you reach the coastal path double-back slightly to the cache. (3) probably more suitable for cachers with very young children and/or pets that aren’t very sure-footed, and involves a further drive and walking about 300 yards each way. DO TAKE CARE IF YOU TAKE THE BEACH ROUTE AND BE SURE YOU DON’T GET TRAPPED BY AN INCOMING TIDE. THE AREA BETWEEN THE COASTAL PATH AND THE BEACH IS VERY MARSHY WITH REED BEDS SO PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO CROSS IT.
