The cache is located on Gibson Island recently purchased by the Town of Belle Plaine. The terrain ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 with only one (1) smallish upward grade. This is by no means a 'park and grab'. The walk to the cache is approximately .35 miles. Do not leave the main trail until your GPSr shows 50-75 feet to the cache. Please - no bushwacking! After you make the find, continue along the main trail and enjoy the rest of your walk.
Gibson Island is a beautiful, natural area. We ask that it be treated as such. The trail runs along the edge of the island giving great views of the water.
Be aware that the boardwalk leading to the island is an Eagle nesting area; be respectful of the eagles and behave appropriately. During breeding season (usually the month of May) the island will be closed to all visitors except those coming by boat from a nearby boat landing on Cty Y (requires a $3 launching fee).
Our GPSr was bouncing around because of the tree cover. If you find your coordinates are majorly different than ours, please let us know. The container is a small camoflaged Loc 'n Loc with a few trade items and log book.
