WWFM III: Armadillo Sighting Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Suchmann: It's time to archive this listing and let it join its place in history. I've been out of the country for almost the whole month of June (did a bit of caching in Taiwan and Thailand), and had forgotten to close this one out. Thanks to everyone who made this event great!

This event is a "Flash Mob" gathering of geocachers, only 15 minutes long! To claim the event, you must be present and sign a log sheet during this time. (Hence the difficulty level of 2.)

"WWFM" stands for the World Wide Flash Mob event: Dozens of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to geocaching. Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at noon on May 10, 2008, as determined by the GPS clock. It will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. A minute-by-minute itinerary (FTF honors, meal, swag and trackable exchange, group photo, raffle, etc.) will soon be posted. We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event.

Swimsuits optional, but encouraged, for pre-flash fun! Hey, I said swimsuits optional, not clothing optional! This isn't Hippie Hollow.

Flash: The official venue for our post-flash lunch is
Schlotzsky's at N30 15.814 W97 45.476
!

Parking Update - I found the parking area behind the Dougherty Arts Center (N30 15.704 W97 45.341), and confirmed that only a few of them are reserved for the Center, and those are clearly marked. Enter from Barton Springs Road. The largest part of this lot has signs saying "Flood Zone", but I don't think that will be a problem on Saturday. There are quite a few parking spaces here, and it's the closest lot to the event site.

Handicapped Parking - I don't know if that's the politically correct term, but it's getting too late to research it tonight. :) Anyway, at least one of our esteemed colleagues will need a space to unload his wheelchair. I found three of these special parking areas near the event site, listed in their order of preference:

N30 15.799 W97 45.257 - the closest and easiest access .One space with access on the right, another with access on the left (or you could back in).

N30 15.852 W97 45.340 - a little farther away, and requires crossing the street, but still a good choice. One space with access on the right, another with access on the left (again, you could back in).

N30 15.683 W97 45.335 - also nearby, and originally I thought it the best choice, but getting from the parking area to the trail could be tricky. Two spaces with access on the right, another with access on the left.

Turtles - before or after the event, stop by N30 15.830 W97 45.291 and look for big turtles.

In your "will attend" log, please post the projected number in your group.

All volunteer positions are now filled! Thank you all so much!
The volunteer page is still here.

Schedule

11:45 - 11:59

Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of nowhere.

11:58

Videographer(s) will begin filming video for the entire event to capture the moment.

11:59 - 12:00

Swag bucket, table, and jam box are brought to ground zero.

12:00 EXACTLY--determined by GPS clock

Event Marshall calls "Come and get it!" This is the signal that the event has begun!

12:00 - 12:06

Log sheets (and schedules, if provided) are handed out.

Fill out log sheets and drop them in the collection box.

Mingle. Share stories. Brag. Trade swag and trackables. Take pictures. CITO the area!

12:06

Go over to the feeding area for the official "meal" of whatever the Food Service Manager provides. Make sure to CITO any wrappers or other trash.

12:08

Go over to the photo area and assemble FAST. Listen to the photographer for directions.

12:12

Go to the raffle staging area.

Prize Raffle Drawing - including a raffle for FTF honors

12:14

One minute warning is called "It is now 11:14!" Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are prepping.

12:15 EXACTLY

Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area (right at 12:15 in a disorderly manner / different directions). We want to clear the video taping area (we will continue to tape for a minute or so) to show us "vacate". Meet elsewhere if a post-event event shapes up.

The bucket of swag will be packed up.

The table and boom box will be packed up.

The log sheet collection box will be packed up and sealed.

12:17

Videographers will end the taping. Quit sooner if everyone's gone.
