Gamlegården var en viktig by under 1800-talet och en bra bit
in i på 1900-talet. Här låg, förutom stora
ladugårdar, en såg och en smedja som tillhörde
Råbäcks gård.
I smedjan reparerade man de
maskiner, redskap och verktyg som användes inom jord- och
skogsbruket. I samma hus som smedjan låg också en
snickarverkstad. På smedjan jobbade bröderna Holger och
Harald fram till 70-talet. Det var deras farfar som kom hit och
byggde upp smedjan på 1800-talet. De flesta verktygen, som
fortfarande hänger på väggarna, är tillverkade
av honom. På bilden ser vi Harald och Holger tillsammans med
fästmö, syster och mamma.

en ångmaskin som idag finns på Rubens maskinhistoriska
samlingar utanför Götene

De som jobbade
på sågen ryckte också in och gjorde en del
ladugårdstjänst när det behövdes.
Idag har sågen och smedjan
köpts av en privatperson som har startat en förening med
syfte att restaurera sågen och smedjan till ursprungligt
skick.

Gamlegården was an important village in the 19'th and a good
part of the 20'th century. In addition to large barns, a sawmill
and a forge were located here. They all belonged to
Råbäcks manor.
Here
machines and tools used in agriculture and forestry were repaired
and maintained. A carpentry was also situated in the same
building.
The
brothers Holger and Harald both worked as blacksmiths until the
70's. There grandfather came to this site in the 19'th century and
established the forge. Most of the tools, still in the forge, were
made by him. In the picture above you see Harald and Holger
together with fiancé, sister and mother.
The
sawmill was powered by a steam engine that today can be found at
Rubens
maskinhistoriska samlingar close to Götene
(http://www.rubens.se/index_se.html).
The
other picture show the workers at the sawmill in the
30'th.
Today
the sawmill and the forge have been bought by a private person who
has initiated an association with the goal to restore the buildings
to their original status.
The
