Oshkosh annually plays host to a number of large, multi-day events which draw thousands of attendees. The largest of these events occurs during last week of July. Hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association, AirVenture is an international gathering of pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Over the course of this weeklong event there may be as many as 1 million turnstile clicks. During this time, Whitman Field becomes the world’s busiest airport. Due to this fact, the FAA brings in an elite team of air traffic controllers to manage the incredible volume of air traffic. One feature of the event is a daily afternoon airshow that features world renowned aero acrobatic teams. In addition, vintage and modern military aircraft are featured and perform demonstrations. A notable annual participant is the “Aluminum Overcast” which is one of a very small number of B-17’s that survives in operation today. It is owned by the EAA and is based in Oshkosh. During AirVenture it makes several flights daily carrying passengers for demonstrations and sight seeing. Other notable civilian and military aircraft appear during the event including the largest aircraft in existence. The Concord visited several times in the past. The largest Boeing and Airbus jetliners are frequently seen. If it flies, it could visit Oshkosh.

.The site of the cache is located about a quarter mile southwest of the western end of runway 9/27 and is ideally situated to observe the comings and goings of aircraft using this runway as well as the daily airshow during AirVenture. It also provides an ideal vantage point to observe the aircraft using the Pioneer field adjacent to the EAA museum.
This cache is located on public property. Note that pliers may be needed to open the container.
Congratulations and Co-FTF honors to teeshot who was first on the scene to locate and identify the cache, and to PA-20 for opening the container and the first log entry.
