Geocache Description:

We were out hiking today with the SDCET on our way to the Slot Canyon from the wind caves and all we could think of was how much this formation looked like a giant desert mushroom. It was screaming for the ammo can hiding in John’s backpack.

Cache is tucked into one of the natural openings in the rocks. It should be very easy to spot!!!

For great directions to this cache follow the driving directions and trail waypoints from Duncan!’s Journey to the Domelands cache. Don't come directly from Duncan's cache. Go back to the main wind caves and find the trail leading off from the West side of the caves.

This area is located just North of Ocotillo, CA, in the Coyote Mountains. The turn off for the trailhead is North of the I-8 on the S-2 about 7 miles. After the turnoff you have about 2 miles on a bumpy dirt road. Based on our experience you can get there in any car, but high clearance is recommended.

If you drop down into the wash from the cache you’ll find your way to a cool Slot canyon. The Slot Canyon drops you out near the oyster beds and from there you can follow the huge wash back to the main trail.

A great desert hike that features huge sandstone domes with wind-carved caves, sweeping views and marine fossils galore.

Bring lots of water in the warm months! Have Fun! Be safe!
