Railroad Museum, Rail Yard. Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TheWeatherWarrior: I don't remember this container, but original log within says this is. Cache was moved however, as it was suppose to be in the little palm slightly north (closer to corner of fenced rail yard exterior (public right-away area). Only about 30 feet from where I hid it. No biggie.

Archiving because I just am not in this area enough to responsibly maintain.

Geocache Description:

Once part of a series now archived. Placed to highlight what would hopefully one day will be a great rails-to-trail pathway. As of August 25, 2014 however, the name has been changed (Original was "Cross County Greenway Trail - Railroad Museum" as part of a series). Series is gone, but this cache remains.

---------------

There was public hearings in 2011 regarding the proposed trail that is desired to go through this spot. I will try to add information as I find it, at the bottom of the cache description.

  • Use Stealth. While a publicly accessible area (just outside the Museum's northern yard and depot, there are residents and hiding spot not exactly great. I will redo later.
  • Please stay on the public right-of-way and do not cross any fences or sections marked No Trespassing.
  • If you cannot find the cache, do not replace it (aka throw-down cache). If you do not find it, or find the container without a log...log as a "Did Not Find" with a good description if you think it is missing/damaged. I will replace/restore the cache.

There is a number of trails in Hillsborough and surrounding counties. It is something that is growing in the Tampa Region. However, it has been tough for the county & state to appropriate funds. Many are designated on maps, but never constructed. This area is one of them. In this case it is a rails-to-trails. This section is an old line that traveled north and south with a slight angle connection to the Power Plant in northern Manatee County, just south of this spot. This is the furthest extent that I know the path can extend, as an active rail road is south of this point.

While direct permission not obtained (working on a redo already with a hide that does require the museum railroad's permission) did speak with a someone who was going into the facility and you should be OK but do NOT cross the fence line or cross any No Trespassing signs. This is hidden in the area that passengers and onlookers have access when the museum is open, but also when closed (not within the gated area).

The container is hidden in a very basic, Florida style. Please rehide EXACTLY where found. If not sure...use hint, as it is the exact hiding location. The container is painted green
