Geocache Description:

Take a chance to explore the woods along the coast of Loch Fyne or simply to break a journey and have a picnic. The cache is themed towards travellers taking a break in the journey/holiday and has music cd's and books for swaps. Please keep to the theme.

A woodland set between the A83 and the shores of Loch Fyne, Ardcastle offers walks to suit all. The Forestry Commission first planted Ardcastle with trees in 1938. Today Ardcastle is a mixed conifer woodland where many areas of the original plantings have been felled and replanted, this has made Ardcastle a varied and interesting woodland. There are a number of sites in the wood of archaeological and wildlife interest such as St Brides Chapel and the graveyard by the shores of Loch Gair or the old sand quarry where many butterflies can be found. The woods are an excellent place for dogs and there is a fantastic viewpoint 100m from the car park with views over Loch Fyne and the Cowal peninsula. Follow cache co-ords for the car park. The cache is in trees so the signal can be weak. Happy Hunting!
