This spot has long been a favorite of divers and boaters! Is it a tugboat or a submarine????
What you can see sticking out of the water is actually the smoke stack of a sunken tugboat. I have asked many people for the history of it, to no avail. So now I'm putting it out to you to find out anything!
As a young girl, on my family's boat trips around Grand Island, we always made Dad idle above the sunken tug. What ghost lies here? What is the story? How did it get here? So, now we know that this tug has been here for over 50 years. And for Historian Dru....it's a shame that that is all I know! If you are able to find out anything more about this sunken treasure, please write about it in your log! No need to go near the water. The drive along this section of East River is wonderful! I hope you will take the time to enjoy it. Cache On.
Urkel pointed out that if you zoom in on the Google satellite map you can see the image of the sunken treasure. Cool.
Well, bigwheel gets first prize. He came up with a terrific link that I'm including here. Thanks for the time and effort he put into this for me! I don't think he means 1998 tho. Will have to see what year the www says....1898??
I FOUND IT!!!!
Refer to www.isledegrande.com/features-2004.htm
Shows the boat itself... the Sidewheeler, Corona
"The sidewheeler, Corona, that carried tourists from the mainland to the Edwater Park, burned at the pier at Edgewater on November 18th, 1898 and can still be partially seen in the river today....."
It was a Big Boat!!
Check it out.....
