letsgohiking: I enjoyed this cache, but I spent too much time last year repairing them. So it's the end of the road for this one!

Geocache Description:

This is the second cache in my historical marker series for Kenosha County, WI (see GCPTCN). It's a micro hidden in a large roadside area.

Welcome to a local history lesson. Please take a minute to read the related marker when you visit this cache. This is Wisconsin Historical Society's Historical Marker #219--"The Name 'Wisconsin'." WHS has a nice website: (visit link)

I enjoy this marker because I'm a life-long resident of Wisconsin (and apparently enjoy trivia). But besides the origins of the spelling "Wisconsin," pronouncing it is often interesting, too. For example, Californians often say "WESconsin." My favorite is when Georgians use their twang too much and it comes out "WisCOWNsin."

Don't forget to visit the other cache in this roadside area--"Cordelia A.P. Harvey" (GCPMAY) by letsgohiking (me!).
